The Sycamore Park District is working to complete a Transition Plan and invite residents to participate in the process.
Accessibility Discussion/Meeting
The Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association (KSRA), on behalf of the Sycamore Park District, invites you to a meeting to discuss the accessibility of District parks and facilities for people with disabilities. Your view is important, and this is an opportunity to make your opinion known. See below for more information, and feel free to pass this invitation onto others who have a disability and are interested in District sites, access, and inclusion.
Registration is requested. To register, please reach Jonelle Bailey at 815-895-3365 ext. 229 or at jonelle@sycparks.org. If a modification is needed because of disability to participate, such as a sign language interpreter, please advise the Sycamore Park District when registering.
Thursday, July 18, 2024
1-2:45pm and 5:30-7:15pm
Sycamore Park District Community Center
KSRA will be in attendance and join the discussion. KSRA is an organization dedicated to providing recreation programs and services to individuals with special needs or disabilities, and their families, who reside within the boundaries of their Member Agencies, which includes the Sycamore Park District. KSRA staff will be a great asset to the meeting, as they offer local experience assessing the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Provide Feedback Online
An additional opportunity to provide feedback comes in the form of a survey. Though not required, this survey pairs well with the in-person sessions to learn more about the project and requirements. Your feedback is anonymous and is used to improve efforts from the Sycamore Park District. Take the survey here: surveymonkey.com/r/SycamoreADAproject
The Sycamore Park District retained the WT Group (WTG) Accessibility Practice in 2024 to develop a transition plan for parks and facilities, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A transition plan identifies access barriers, and phases the retrofit work over time. John McGovern leads the Accessibility Practice at WTG, and he will coordinate the first portion of the meeting. In the meeting, WTG will:
- Review key ADA requirements for parks and facilities
- Discuss the importance of community feedback in establishing retrofit priorities
- Share observations of access barriers viewed at Sycamore Park District sites
- Ask for the access preferences and priorities of the members of the public in attendance
- Close with a discussion about next steps for the Sycamore Park District
If there are any questions, contact John McGovern with the WT Group at 224-293-6451 or jmcgovern@wtgroup.com, or Jonelle Bailey, Sycamore Park District Executive Director at 815-895-3365 ext. 229 or at jonelle@sycparks.org.
Thank you in advance for helping the Sycamore Park District with their ADA Transition Plan.
