Celebrate the season at the first Community Winter Luminary Display as we honor the rich tapestry of winter celebrations around the world and in our community. For centuries, people have used luminaries, candles, and lights to bring warmth and joy to the darker part of the year. What lights up your winter?
Now through Dec 6: Pick up a milk jug at the Community Center or decorate one from home and show us how you celebrate this special time of year.
Dec 8: Final day to turn in your decorated luminary.
Dec 13-23: Luminaries will be on display at Legacy Campus for all to enjoy! (If the weather forecast is snowy or windy, they may be displayed inside the Community Center)
Decorating Tips
- Permanent markers, paint pens, and acrylic paint tend to adhere nicely to plastic.
- Go 3-D! Feel free to glue items, fabric, or paper to your luminary.
- Remember to leave space for the light to shine through.
- You may cut designs in the jug, but please leave the base and spout intact.
- Park District staff will put sand in the bottom and a string light bulb in each one to create the display.
